Marching Band

This is the video Allen took of Plymouth's marching band at the invitationals last Saturday at Concord High School in Elkhart. This is a much better video than the one I took in the wind and rain. This is the whole performance. It is a little long, about eleven minutes. You don't see much of the color guard girls in the beginning because Allen is zoomed in on the Cello player, but they are carrying white flags with pictures of real soldiers that died in the Vietnam War. The flags also have the year the soldiers were born and year they died listed on them. The names that you hear being read are also names of real soldiers that died during the war. Watch for the fight scene that the band does during the 3rd song right at the beginning. It is really quick, but neat. The screen is so small, but you might be able to see that during the second song the band forms a couple of crosses too.
Allen didn't zoom in on Greg at any time during the performance, which made Greg very happy. Just know that he is somewhere on the far left side marching! :-)
Oh, you will also want to scroll down to the bottom of the blog and pause the music player that I have playing before you start the video.

thoughts about "Marching Band" (the post)
- Greg should just be glad and thankful that you're not up there hollering his name like a maniac (or maybe you usually do, how would I know?!)- that's what!
- As someone who knew him best when he was 3 years old (this proly does not bode well for you, Greg), I'm still having a hard time adjusting to the fact that your oldest is in marching band... when did he get so old and stuff??? (Sorry Greg) What happened to the 'Veggies Gone Bad' kid?
- They did an amazing show- how did they do in the eyes of the judges? I had goosebumps at the end. It brought back the lyrics of the 'Goodnight Saigon' song- which gives me the willies for sure... but that was a sad war.
- ummmm... that's all folks! Good Job Greg!

No, Anita, you're right,I am NOT one of those parents who sits in the stands hollering their child's name! Can you believe they do that? I asked Greg about that and he said that they ignore ALL the noise so to be in the right frame of mind to play and march. As for the judges...they gave them second place in their class and best visual over all the classes. I agree with you, it is a very moving performance. Oh, and that little 3 year old you remember? Well, he is way taller than me now...almost as tall as his dad!!!
