old news

I was too sick to blog this when it happened, so will blog it now. Last Friday, when we had the ice day and didn't go to school, Sarah saw a strange sight out our living room window. I was in my bedroom and she came back and said, "Mom, there is a man outside with a rope and he is trying to catch a goat!" So I had to go see, I mean, we do live in town and it was hard for me to believe that there would be a goat outside our home. Well, Sarah was right, and it was a big white goat! I tried taking pictures of it, but they didn't turn out too well, but I will post of couple of them. Anyway, the man looked like he really didn't know what he was going to do. A lady soon showed up to help (I'm thinking the wife), but she really didn't know what to do either. I finally talked Allen into going out to help them. He really didn't want to though, because the goat didn't really look like he wanted to be caught! The kids all put on their coats and went to help, they thought it was great!

Well, they ended up chasing the goat to the front of the school and had it cornered by the front doors. When the goat saw that he was cornered, he put his head down and ran straight at the woman. She of course got right out of his way and he ran back to the spot he was before, beside our house in the school parking lot. When everyone caught up to him, he took off running again along the fence that separates the parking lot from the river. Well the fence ends at the end of the parking lot and of course the goat turned and ran behind the fence and then down the slope to the river! Allen said that the goat then ran right into the river and started swimming downstream. The man (owner) then took off running along the bank after it. That's when Allen came home with the kids, he wasn't about to follow the goat down river. We still do not know if they ever caught him or not. We think they (the owners) live one block over from us. They just moved in this past summer and we have noticed that they have ducks and chickens in their backyard, so it sounds reasonable to have a goat now too?! We wondered if it was going to be their Christmas dinner?! Ha

The goat standing over by the fence that separates the parking lot from the playground and also the river.

The poor man just standing and looking at his goat. You could tell that the goat did not want to be caught at all! He was 100% on the defense.

Here he is running back towards the parking lot after they had him cornered in the front of the school. All I was able to capture in this picture was his rear end as he ran past the tree that you see in the middle of the picture. Remember, I was running a fever and not feeling good at all, so I apologize for not going outside and getting better pictures! :-)

Here is when the goat ran into the woods and then the river. It is really hard to see the goat in this picture, but he is by the light pole that is just ahead of and to the right of Nathan. Nathan is the one still in the parking lot just getting ready to run into the snow.
